Date: Sun 02-Jul-1989 07:25:26 From: Unknown Subject: Controlling phone lines via computer (on/off-hook, 2-line switching)? I am planning to buy a NeXT computer and use two phone lines for an advanced phone mail and remote-control application I'll write. NeXT has a miked in and two (L+R) sound out channels, but I will need: (1) The ability to control on/off-hook on each line, detect the state of the line (query it non-intrusively), maybe generate ring to attached phones, and other low-level tasks. (2) Interface RCA line-level outs to the phone lines. (3) Interface the phone lines to the miked input and be able to switch between the two lines (hopefully FAST) for alternating input between them. I am willing to build whatever I need, but need help finding information and details necessary for such a project. Anyone with help, knowledge of products that exist (with serial port connectors would be best), or pointers would be rewarded by praise and lavish thanks.
