Date: Sun 22-Dec-1989 22:48:56 From: gerrit@nova.cc.purdue.edu (Gerrit) Subject: Recent Submissions to the NeXT Archives (long) Here's an update on some of the more recent additions to the NeXT Archives on "cc.purdue.edu". Most of the summaries that I provide are off the top of my head - if I'm not 100% accurate, don't shoot me. Also, progress on the email based archive server - I'm getting ready to run it through some basic beta testing. We have a little bit of configuration work to do before it is ready for general use, but it seems to be on the verge of being usable. I'll post when it is ready for general consumption. And, no, please don't fill my mailbox with letters about how you'd love to beta test it - I think I have enough volunteers already. I'm also planning to remove things related to 0.8 and 0.9 in the archives sometime during the new year, since everyone who had either of those releases should by now have access to the newest release. If anyone strongly objects to this, let me know and please provide a good reason (Not "Oh - I object on principle"). The following two directories are new - their description should be sufficiently complete. The author had minor questions about its accuracy on some of the more obscure values he found in kmem, so be wary if you are counting on it. However, in general it seems to be very accurate and gives a good overall feel for the load on the machine. source/Monitor.tar.Z B Information monitor similar to Suns perfmon source/RecordApp.tar.Z B DSP Record program with source source/SoundGenerator.tar.Z B Generate Sine wave based sounds source/bash-1.04.tar.Z B GNU Born-again Shell with bugfixes for NeXT source/mac2snd.tar.Z B Convert Mac sound files to NeXT sound files source/playscorefile.cl A Common Lisp Example for playing scorefile source/pstools A Postscript tools source/sine.prog A Sine wave generator, posted to the Net This is not the entire INDEX file - just the stuff that is more recent. If you've never seen the INDEX file, ftp to "cc.purdue.edu" (128.210.9.2) using a login of "anonymous" and using your login@host as the password. The NeXT stuff is in the directory "pub/next". Submissions should be to "next-archive@cc.purdue.edu" - keep sending them in! I prefer not to archive binaries for fear of Viruses/Worms/ Trojan Horses, etc., but if you can not send your source, I'll put it in the directory called "binaries". Remember, Purdue provides no warranty on any of the files in the NeXT archive for any purpose. If a program out there destroys your machine, send me mail and I'll remove it from the archive, but that's the extent of what I can do.
