Date: Sun 29-Aug-1989 14:12:17 From: Unknown Subject: Some Questions from downunder You know that it has been really great reading all the stuff that goes into this newgroup. However we here down under can only sit and stare, we cannot yet participate, 'cause the magical, wonderful NeXT is not yet marketed here. However its only early days, isn't it. I wonder though if Mr.Jobs is going to ever get around to releasing this thing in the land down under. I do have several questions about the machine. As I understand it has no floppy disk drive in its box. Only the floptical which is a massive (I think is about 250 M/Bytes) bit of storage. Isn't this a little bit of overkill if you want to transfer a small file between machines? Is Job's heralding a solution to Lotus's problem of not being able to have the next release of 1-2-3 work in even 1 M/byte? Another question I have is how different is the NeXT OS from other type/flavours of UNIX? Is it so major that new versions of old favourites have to be written, or can they simply be ported, tweaked and then re-compiled? Thanks B.R. >From: ali@polya.Stanford.EDU (Ali T. Ozer)
