Date: Sun 23-Aug-1989 12:48:10 From: Unknown Subject: Recording music I have a question concerning recording musical passages. I have a (borrowed) Digital Ears box that I'm evaluating (I want to buy one!) and also trying to record some music with. I don't have their software (which is probably part of the problem), but I've been told I can do it with sndrecord. I try: "sndrecord -d <file>" and it does work for VERY small passages of time. If I try to record more than 10 seconds, I get errors; the most common is "sound resource not found". I tried giving sndrecord a high -l and -h (low and high water mark) paramaters and they seemed to help; I recorded one minute long passage. However, I still can't record anything longer than a minute, and even the minute is dificult, it very often dies and wont even do a minute. Is there a bug in sndrecord? Is the only way to use Digital Ears relieably is with their software (or do they just use sndrecord). Also (NeXT people), why doesn't the Sound object read from the DSP?? I'd try to write my own user interface and be able to monitor what's coming in; but Sound only listens to the microphone. I HOPE this is coming in 1.0! thanks!
