Subject: Need stroked characters

OK, this is about as far from "rendering" as you can get. However,
there aren't any better places, and someone might actually know.

I need to do fairly low-tech stroked characters, like found in CAD
systems for plotting. These poor-man's fonts are typically just line
segments. In other words, PostScript is way too fancy.

I would like to know if sources of these types of characters are
available. That is, are there established "stroke tables" that are
public domain or standard? Does every CAD maker do their own? Steal
AutoDesk's?

Any pointers appreciated.
