This is the README for Jargon.3.2.NIHS.bd.tar.gz [Download] [Browse] [Up]
QUAD FAT SOFTWARE Yes, it was a simple recompile. Nothing's tested though :-). The latest Jargon.app is ready for public consumption. Jargon is a cool shareware digital dictionary in the style of Webster on steriods. It's targeted around the Internet Jargon File (aka Hacker's Dictionary). There's also an API for building your own dictionaries, and I've put up the InternetCookbook somewhere... I've never gotten around to publishing the API though. Anyway, if you really want it, send me email. It's kinda gross. NEW IN VERSION 3.2 ================== The main changes in this version are: (1) Compiled 4xfat (not tested on HP or SPARC) (2) New info panel by me (big deal). (3) Fixed a race condition problem in the data loading thread which could crash the program if someone clicked "define" twice extremely quickly. That's what you get for parallel programming ;-). (4) A reworked entry browser, which is cleaner and more usable. (5) Minor bug fixes (6) Smoothed out the hypertext transitions from the browser and the hypertext buttons. (7) New app icon and associated animation. (8) New define icon (yes, I was getting tired of the bland tiffs). You can get it from: ftp://ftp.cs.orst.edn/pub/next/submissions/Jargon-3.2.mihs.tar.gz ftp://sonata.cc.purdue.edu/pub/next/submissions/Jargon-3.2.mihs.tar.gz ftp://hasc.ca/pub/next/Jargon-3.2.mihs.tar.gz That's it. Try em out. Buy 'em if you like 'em. They're a total of $25 and you'll not find a better deal under NEXTSTEP. Well, except for the GNU compiler and debugger. And Carl Edman + friends' port of Emacs. Still, this is a good deal :-). NEW IN VERSION 3.1 ================== Jargon-3.1 is the popular Webster-style interface to the fabulous internet jargon file. Previous versions of Jargon have been reviewed by NeXTWORLD Magazine, and NEXT IN LINE both of which recommended it, and gave it a 4 out of 5 rating. The newest version of Jargon is triple-fat, so you can finally get those ever-so-useful definitions on your HP machines. Numerous bugs have been fixed in 3.1 version, and 3.1 is also shareware. Yes, it's shareware, so you'll have to send us a cheque for $15 if you want to keep it. We think it's only fair since we've been working on Jargon for well over a year, giving lots of free support, and producing newer and better versions every few months. It's time we got a little bit of thanks for all our hard work! ;-). Anyway, download the software, check it out, and if you're a past user or a new user of Jargon, follow your conscience, and support a NEXTSTEP developer who's trying to bring you cool software for almost-free. It can be found at: ftp://ftp.cs.orst.edu/pub/next/submissions/Jargon-3.1.tar.gz ftp://sonata.cc.purdue.edu/pub/next/submissions/Jargon-3.1.tar.gz ftp://hasc.ca/pub/next/Jargon-3.1.tar.gz Note: hasc has a slow link. Avoid it if you can. - darcy Darcy Brockbank samurai@hasc.ca
