King James version of the Bible for the NeXT Eduardo Ostertag Computer Science Department University of Maryland College Park, MD 20742 ostertag@cs.umd.edu This directory contains the 66 books of the Kings James Version of the Bible. I got the documents via anonymous-ftp from helens.stanford.edu (this site also has the U.S. constitution and other interesting historic documents). I transformed the files from plain text into WriteNow two-column format and added an icon to use with Librarian (which looks like a fat black book with a white cross on its cover). The package contains a file called INFO.rtf which is the original README file. This document mentions the name of Richard Petersen, which I assume is the person that compiled this Bible. I would like to thank Lee Ward and Varun Mitroo who told me how to make this package available to general public. Copyright Information The Literature contained has no copyright. I have attempted to credit everyone involved. If I've missed someone I am truly sorry and will happily correct the mistake. Further, the only restrictions I place on the work I have done here is that it may not be sold for profit and any redistribution must contain a copy of this notice. Package Installation 1. The King James Bible is contained in the file "Bible_KJV.tar.Z" If you want this package for your personal use, place this file in your ~/Library directory. If you want to make this package available to all users, place the file in /LocalLibrary. 2. Extract the contents of the package using the following commands: uncompress Bible_KJV.tar.Z # produces Bible_KJV.tar file tar xvf Bible_KJV.tar # produces ./Bible directory rm Bible_KJV.tar # delete file Bible_KJV.tar 3. Add the Bible directory to the list of Targets of Librarian and create an index: 3.1 Activate Librarian. 3.2 From the File Viewer, drag the icon of the Bible Folder to the Librarian main window. The librarian should grab the icon and add it the Bookshelve. 3.3 Select the icon of the Bible and choose "Index" menu option to create an index. This will take a couple of minutes, and at the end you should get and index of about 700K in size. 3.4 Choose "Save" menu command to save the Bookshelve. Enjoy!!
