beta ReportPalette 4.2 for OpenStep (EOF 2.0) This release of the ReportPalette for OpenStep is licensed through: December 10, 1996 and compiled for: Motorola, Intel, and Sparc machines. Installing the ReportPalette Below are several simple steps to follow when installing the ReportPalette. Double-click the ReportPalette.pkg to launch the Installer.app, allowing you to install the ReportPalette files in a selected directory. After installation is complete, verify that you have the following files and directories. /Palettes/ReportPalette.palette : InterfaceBuilder palette /Frameworks/TDReportKit : ReportPalette supporting Framework /Frameworks/TDSharedKit : Target Development Palette supporting Framework /Docs : Palette documentation /Examples : Palette demo Applications and NIBS /Database : Sybase, Oracle, QuickBase and Informix install scripts for creating and loading the demo database 1. Loading the palette The ReportPalette.palette file is easily loaded into Interface Builder first by copying the file to a desired directory (i.e. ~/palettes, /LocalDeveloper/Palettes) and then double-clicking on the .palette icon. This action will launch Interface Builder (if it is not already running) and load the palette. If the palette is not licensed for the machine on which you are running, a login panel will appear, prompting you to contact Target Development for a license key. See Licensing the Palette below. 2. Installing the Frameworks Place both Frameworks in /LocalLibrary/Frameworks. The ReportPalette.palette will not load properly if these Frameworks are not in the specified location. 3. Running the Demo Applications and NIBs Under OpenStep, .eomodeld files are required to be a part a project, and NIBs can no longer be run in Test Interface mode outside of the project's scope. Therefore, all of our demo ĒNibsē have been wrapped inside a dummy project named DemoNibs. The application has no functionality, and only provides a context for running the example NIBs. Also, the demo applications have been built using 4.1 ProjectBuilder Makefiles. This shouldn't pose a problem in any of the applications except Participant, since this app has a subproject. If inside of PB, no files or images show up when inspecting the CheckBrowser.subproj, you will have to remove, and then add the subproj by hand, making sure to include the 3 classes and two images in the new subproject. Saving the project should then rewrite the Makefiles under your current scheme. Please contact us if you have any problems with this version of the Makefiles. Licensing the ReportPalette A free demo license is available for the ReportPalette. A demo license is granted by date, fully enabling the palette for the duration of the license. See the following instructions on how to use the ReportPalette's license panel to demo or purchase the product. 1. Load the object palette into InterfaceBuilder by double-clicking on the palette icon. This action will launch IB if it is not already running. 2. Select the palette in IB. This will bring up a panel saying that your host is not licensed, offering an option to License the palette or Cancel the load. Select the License option in order to bring up the panel shown on the next page. Using this panel, the user may easily request and register a palette license. In order to request a host license, select License Machine at the top of the panel, and push the Request License button at the bottom of the panel. In order to request a demo license, select Extend Demo at the top of the panel, and push the Request License button at the bottom of the panel. The default demo expiration date is set to one month ahead of the system date. If this date is not satisfactory, use the buttons in the middle of the panel to alter the calendar to the desired expiration date. Pushing the Request License button composes an email message to Target Development, providing us with all of the information we need to return a license key to you. You may also mail or phone us with this information, but email is preferred. Requesting a license closes the login panel, which will reappear each time the non-licensed palette is accessed. When you receive your license key from Target Development, first bring up the panel by attempting to use the palette in Interface Builder. Set the panel as it was when you requested the license, again selecting the type of license you requested, and the demo expiration date if you requested a demo license. Enter the returned key in the text field labeled Password at the bottom of the panel and select the License button. A successful licensing will close the panel, fully enabling the palette. An unsuccessful licensing will cause a system beep, and won't close the panel, or enable the palette.
